Last night we rushed through supper (never a good plan) so that I could attend an online poetry workshop. I had read and re-read the 3 poems we’d be discussing and was looking forward to this hour and a half with folks dedicated to words, sounds, images.
But when I joined the online workshop the sound on my computer refused to work. I could see the workshop folks but neither hear them nor speak to them. Ay, yay, yay. My computer’s microphone had taken a hike. I fiddled endlessly with this and that but to no avail. Finally, in a thoroughly agitated state, I wrote a message in the chat and abandoned the workshop so that my attention could go solely to the SOUND problem.
For me technology is a maze, a morass, a giant tangle of terms and processes that brings me to a state of infancy, wishing I had a computer mom to run to: “Mommy, Mommy, fix it!”
Well, there just ain’t no computer mom living at my house and my partner’s skills in this department are fewer than mine. It took me an hour and a half. Keep calm, I kept telling myself, as my fingers pressed buttons, as I read Google instructions, as I found the trouble shooters, found ways to download the devices that had somehow disappeared from my system.
But finally the sound works!!! Take that Technology Demons!!

Bravo!
