You think you’re done. You think that first chapter is a winner. You think people reading this will LOVE it. Think again. There’s more work ahead.
I’ve written four drafts of “Her Last Cookbook,” but see now that another draft is definitely on order. Big thanks to the five dear souls who are reading the manuscript and offering suggestions. It’s great to have this kind of support, no matter what the project may be. Think knitting circles, meditation groups, tai chi gatherings, book clubs. We all benefit from interaction.
And yet. Some of the time it’s just the individual working away on her own. In silence or with music in the background, perhaps the sound of a neighbor’s cows mooing away, the whir of passing traffic, the hum of a fan. For an hour or three, alone and focused, it’s just you and the task. Time doesn’t matter, other chores can wait. You’re in the work–in the zone–and that’s such a powerful sensation.
